Chandigarh, November 28, 2022: Hemant Kumar, an Advocate at Punjab & Haryana High Court, Hemant Kumar, has sent a written appeal to State Government for rechristening State C.I.D. (Criminal Investigation Department) as State Intelligence Wing.

Advocate asserted that Section 16 of Haryana Police Act, 2007, the law which is applicable in the State with effect from Nov 1, 2008 stipulates that the State Police shall have a State Intelligence Wing for collection, collation, analysis and dissemination of intelligence.

“As on date, all such sort of functions are being performed by State C.I.D., hence its nomenclature ought to be changed to State Intelligence Wing of Haryana Police. Currently, senior IPS of Haryana Cadre 1993 batch Alok Mittal is posted as ADGP/CID,” he asserted.

“Also, C.I.D. in Haryana doesn’t perform any sort of Criminal Investigation officially or legally i.e. under provisions of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), 1973 and/or any other Criminal Law. Hence, usage of twin words viz. Criminal Investigation in its nomenclature i.e. C.I.D. is not appropriate,” he added.
